When drawing traditional comics, you usually have to draw the panels by hand or use frame templates that have already been printed. But once you switch to digital software, don't be afraid to use Medibang's built-in feature to help you make comic panels. This article is for Medibang’s create comic panel feature on the computer. Later, I'll write an article about how to use it on the app.
To make a comic panel, open your file. Then choose Layer -> Add panel Material from the menu.
The Comic Panel Property window will open.
The number in the box is the thickness of the outline of your comic panel. You can pick any number you want and make changes to it later. For the computer version, you'll see an estimate in centimeters below that number. If you don't know much about pixels yet, this will help you a lot. You can also change the color of the outline with the Border Color box now or later as well.
When you click OK, a frame appears around your canvas.

1. Use the Divide tool to divide your comic panel
The next step is to divide the frame into parts. First, you need to pick the Divide tool from the toolbar. Then there will have two boxes labeled Kerning and Leading on the menu bar at the top.
The distance between frames can be changed by using these two boxes: Kerning for the vertical line and Leading for the horizontal line.
If you wish to change the distance between two frames, adjust the Kerning and Leading parameters before using the Divide tool to split your large panel into smaller ones. Please note that the new panel operation cannot be carried out until two parallel sides of the panel have been crossed.
2. Divide Medibang comic panel diagonally
You can divide the panel diagonally by choosing "Divide Diagonally" on the Keyboard Support feature (review this Keyboard Support article for how to open it). Or, you can just hold down the SHIFT key while you split your comic panel.
3. Divide the comic panel equally with Medibang
To divide the comic panel equally, you have to use the Operation tool to click on the panel that has to be split.
Then, go to Layer -> Material -> Divide. But you can't use divide equally for a diagonal panel; it only works for square/rectangle panels.
The Divide Frame window will open. Select 2 in the Horizontal Numb box and 1 in the Vertical Numb box if you want to have 2 horizontally equal panels. The same goes for dividing in the opposite direction.
If you wish to divide by three or more, increase the number in the desired dimension. When you are done, click OK.
