Merge layer is a function of drawing software that allows you to combine many layers into one. This is also a method for reducing the size of your painting when there are so many layers that they slow down your drawing program.
1. Merge adjacent layers:
When you have two layers next to each other, you should start by choosing the layer on top. Then select the Merge button in the window.
Or use menu Layer -> Merge down (hotkey: Ctrl + E).
Immediately the selected layer will merge with the layer just below it.
2. Merge multiple selected layers at once.
Medibang doesn't let you merge multiple layers at once as other drawing programs do. So, we're going to use a little trick.
First, you hold down the Ctrl button and click on the layers you want to merge. If they are adjacent, click the top layer, then hold the Shift button and click the lower layer.
Then choose Layer -> Move to New Folder from the menu. Now, the selected layers will stay in the new folder that was created for them automatically.
Then you just need to go to the menu Layer -> Merge Folder, and all of the layers in the folder will be merged into one. Make sure you don't place the layer you don't want to merge in this folder.
3. Merge all existing layers.
No need to select anything. You just go straight to the menu Layer -> Merge All…
Then a window will appear with the following options:
a. Preserve Unmerged Layers: When you choose this line, layers that are not authorized to combine will not merge together. However, I tried all the layers with different types. But it did not work at all. So don't give a damn about this line lol.
b. Exclude text layers: Select this line so the program won't merge layers containing text.
c. Flatten layers and included backgrounds: When you click on this line, all the layers will be merged together. If you chose a background color when you first created the file, even the hidden background layer would be merged (look for Medibang New Canvas Settings if you have no idea about background color when creating a file). In case you want a transparent background while saving the file, avoid selecting this line.
And that’s all about How to Merge Layers! See you in the next article about the Brush in Medibang Paint Pro.
